The fear of rejection by others and the need for total,
unequivocal success every time out comes from self-rejection and
fear of self-doubt. Acceptance of self and getting over the fear
of rejection puts our well-being into our own hands. Society
brainwashes us into feeling that we must succeed and must be
accepted every time we turn toward someone or undertake any
activity at all. If we fail, we are disgraced. This results in
terribly hurt pride, embarrassment, attacks of self-doubt, and
depression when we are rejected.
Fear of rejection is the opposite of self-confidence and
success. It is a self-fulfilling prophecy and a prescription for
failure. There is no easy way for those of us who would liberate
ourselves from this bind. We simply must take chances and come
to realize that while our pride may be hurt, our real selves
remain unscathed.
Allowing oneself to be rejected – actually permitting rejection
– is liberating beyond belief. We are then truly free! We then
become able to knock on any door, to try many things, to ask, to
explore, to be enterprising in all areas of life. We are free to
tap any and all of our inner resources.
