What Is The Formula For Success?

What does it take to achieve success? Countless numbers of books have been written on the subject...and there are countless numbers of answers. The answer, one might think, depends on how you define or measure success. But, regardless of your definition or yardstick, to achieve success in business or in life, certain core elements are required.

The first element is Honesty. And, being honest with yourself about what you truly want and what holds real meaning for you is essential. If you're not focusing your efforts on something that is consistent with your core values and beliefs, are you likely to put forth your maximum effort? Most likely not.

The next element is Courage. It not only takes courage to be honest with yourself about what you value and what you really want, but once you decide and set meaningful goals, it takes courage to actually do the work required. At times you will find yourself navigating uncharted territory, and it will take courage to overcome your fears and continue to make progress.

The third element is Enthusiasm. Enthusiasm not only keeps you moving forward, but it keeps you looking forward to the next step, the next accomplishment. Every undertaking has its "grunt work." When you are truly enthusiastic about what you are doing, you have the energy to look past the grunt work and focus on your ultimate goal and do whatever is necessary to keep moving forward.

The fourth element is Persistence. Success comes to those who are persistent in their efforts. The line between failure and success is frequently a thin one. Often, it is when the roadblocks appear the biggest and the prospect of success seems the most distant that you are about to step across that line. Success comes to those who persevere and, rather than throw their hands in the air in face of those roadblocks, exert a little more effort, have a little m o re patience, and take one more step.

So what's the formula for success? Success = Honesty + Courage + Enthusiasm + Persistence
